Strategies for Small Business: Develop New Revenue Streams

  • Sharebar

The new mantra for small business owners is becoming clear – evolve or die.  Take it to the next level, think outside the box – whatever you want to call it, you’d better take action now.

IGD Solutions is an internet services provider.  They started with web site design and e-commerce.   Then they added SEO (Search Engine Optimization) services to help their clients increase traffic to their web sites.  They offer the full range of services you’d expect from a web design firm.  And then they went above and beyond that – with outstanding results.

I’ll let Jeff Schreiber, Vice President of Business Development for IGD, tell the story from here…

Three years ago, we discovered a product that tied in nicely with our core business.  It’s a Bandwidth Management Device (offered by Procera Networks and Allot Communications).  Simply put, it allows network administrators to manage web traffic.

Why is this important?  Say you’re running the network for a University or College.  You pay for a certain amount of bandwidth and you have systems that need to run within the allotted bandwidth.  Now you add a student population burning up bandwidth with peer-to-peer traffic; downloading music, movies and other large files.  All this non-essential activity can clog the network.  Your choice is to add more bandwidth (which is expensive) or regulate your existing bandwidth to ensure that you can accommodate critical applications like research, e-mail, databases, etc. when you need to.

The Bandwidth Management device allows network administrators to restrict peer-to-peer traffic to evening hours and leave days free for priority applications.  They have control over their network traffic and they can manage it based on their specific needs.

Three years ago, we discovered a technology with value to a market that we could service (colleges and universities).  Since then, we have installed this device in over 150 locations nationwide, with great success.  It’s been a valuable asset to the academic community and an important new revenue/profit source for IGD.

If you are interested in learning more about the Bandwidth Management Device, Call IGD’s Regional Manager for Bandwidth Sector, Rex Hankins at 405-728-5739.

Identifying new markets, adding new services, keeping an open mind – this is how successful small businesses like IGD stay successful.
